Microsoft have a project called Code Academy that was set up as a response to concerns over the falling interest in programming. This is a great way to give incentives to a group. The ideas are drip fed through all the lessons on the site. As the learners achieve a level they get an award. The awards can be shared through Facebook or Twitter to get a competitive side going. There are also opportunities to use the forums to either find out 'how to..' or to share discoveries, so good for motivating high achievers.
I tried the first lesson and soon completed it and then got my award :-> And the best thing is it's free to sign up for it. Thanks to Sandra at Ashton Sixth Form for sharing this resource with me.
