Note: this is not just about "Being Green" or "another environmental initiative", it is also about business processes that could potentially save learning providers a lot of money.

e.g. Waste costs money, typically up to 4%, and by finding ways to reduce waste, learning providers could become more sustainable.

This publication is designed to help learning providers implement resource efficient practices within their business. Not only are these practices proven to cut costs, they are also beneficial for the environment.

In 2009 there were an estimated 1.5 million computers in the sector that cost £116 million in energy bills and generated half a million tonnes of CO2.

The environmental impact is not limited to the lifetime usage of this equipment...

  • manufacturing;
  • transport; and
  • disposal
...all play their part.

Learning providers need to...

  • make their technology procurement and operations greener;
  • apply technology to reduce their need, and their stakeholders, to travel and use other consumables.
Technology can also...
  • help learning providers to be more socially inclusive by
    • making resources available at different times and in different formats;
    • helping to engage with a more diverse set of stakeholders.
