Customise your USB Memory Stick

IDevice Icon Can I make my USB stand out from the crowd?

"My learners tend to purchase USB Memory Sticks that are identical. Is there a way they can customise the memory drive or rename it?"

With the following tip you, and your learners can personalise their USB drives making them more identifiable.

Open Notepad and type in the following text

[autorun]

icon = conference07.ico

label = eLearning Adviser's USB

NOTE: you can choose...

...the name of the icon you use (in my example I chose conference07.ico)

...the label for your USB drive (in my example I chose eLearning Adviser's USB)

Save this on your USB Drive with the name

autorun.inf

Choose an icon that you want to use (If you can't find one try http://www.iconarchive.com/ )

Save it on your USB Drive and rename it to match the icon name you used in Notepad (e.g. In my example I renamed it conference07.ico)

Next time you plug in your USB Drive it will appear with the new icon and name
IDevice Icon If you don't want to see these files...

...on your USB Drive...

  • Hide them by...
    • right-clicking them and
    • choosing Properties...
    • then tick the box entitled Hidden and
    • Click OK
