Formative eAssessment using eXe

iDevice icon Overview
Assessment is central to learning and teaching. What is assessed defines what is taught and how it is learnt. Formative Assessment tools in the ‘FREE Open Source' eLearning XHTML editor software (eXe) enables practitioners to provide developmental feedback to a learner on his or her current understanding and skills. It is very much ‘assessment for learning' since it is entered into voluntarily, no final qualification depends on it and it can prompt learners to adjust their own performance.

The workshop will aim to raise delegate awareness of the potential, within learning and teaching, of the eAssessment tools, and also provide a supported hands-on opportunity to ‘try-it-out'.

The resulting formative eAssessment(s)...

  • ...can be used ‘off-line' (as long as online resources are no included)
  • ...can be carried on a CD, DVD, Memory Stick etc
  • ...can be exported in a number of formats
  • ...can include self- or peer-assessments by embedding Web 2.0 tools such as blogs or wikis
  • ...can support personalisation
  • ...can be used as part of an ‘eXe ePortfolio' (for RARPA)Learners can access essential content at a time and place to suit their needs.

Remember with eXe produced resources...

Content can be revisited for reinforcement.

Multimedia presentations can enliven factual information and support different learning styles.

Enhanced online presentations allow learners to reflect on concepts at their own pace.

Transmission of information online enables practitioners and learners to use their scheduled contact time more creatively.
