If you are looking to get an ePortfolio system for a learning provider or workplace, the obvious solution might seem to be adding something to its existing website or Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

Although this would be suitable for some ePortfolios, it does raise a number of issues:

• Who has ownership of the ePortfolio?
• Will the individual be able to access the ePortfolio beyond their time with the learning provider or employer?
• Is there a system available for the existing website or VLE, which will be suitable for your requirements?
• Can an internally hosted system cope with requirements such as security, capacity and portability?
