CLOZE TEST

Image of Cloze Test Interface

Although I like the simple Cloze Passage iDevice in eXe, this CLOSE TEST, an online tool, offers a wider range of choices especially for English/Key Skills (Functional Skills) Practitioners and/or Learners.

The text used is very much up to the user! It could be text...

  • that is currently being studied or that has been studied before
  • about personal interests - from a website like BBC news perhaps.

To use...

Open the Cloze Test creator <http://l.georges.online.fr/tools/cloze.html>

  • Copy and paste the text chosen, into the text field. Users don't need to use the whole text, a couple of paragraphs, at a time, should be enough.
  • Below the pasted text select the 'Interactive' and 'No clues' radio buttons; (These choices make it more fun for the user)
  • Either
    • from the list of options on the right, select which feature to test/assess on and click the 'Submit Query'
  • OR
    • make it random and click on 'Submit Query' without choosing an option.

The website will, having followed the instructions above, produce an interactive activity.

Users can then type the missing words into the text. If they get the words right they score points, if wrong they will be red.

This tool can convert any text into a cloze test activity like this. An excellent way to test and improve English skills.

Use the link above to try it out.
